New Course in Fall 2023: Environmental Conservation

The International and Global Studies Program is pleased to announce that Cadi Fung, instructor of geography, will teach a new course on Environmental Conservation and Society: Special Topics in International and Global Studies, in fall 2023 (this course is listed as INST 4003 and also cross-listed in geography).

The course is an interdisciplinary exploration into the physical and sociocultural dimensions of environmental conservation efforts around the world. Students will explore historical and contemporary roots of current environmental problems, sociocultural perceptions of nature (flora, fauna and landscapes) and human relations (including conflict) with the natural environment, environmental conservation movements and theories, key figures in these conservation movements and the diffusion of such movements across cultures. Other contemporary issues that will be discussed include food production systems, wildlife conservation, environmental justice and the geography of global change.
