Man beaten, critically injured in attack on CTA Red Line platform: CPD

CHICAGO (WLS) — A teen boy has been charged after a man was critically injured in a Sunday night attack on a CTA platform, Chicago police said.

Police said the victim, 20, was beaten on the 69th Street Red Line platform and found with cuts to his head at around 7:45 p.m. That’s when he was rushed to the hospital.

A 15-year-old boy was later charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery, police said.

It’s still unclear what was happening in the moments leading up to this attack. Trains did bypass the 69th Street station for a couple hours as the investigation unfolded.

Police said two people of interest were taken into custody for questioning by detectives.

Earth Day is here. Is tech innovation its best ally?

Earth Day is here. Is tech innovation its best ally?

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

Every April 22 people come together to take action that will protect the environment. The theme of this year’s Earth Day is ‘Invest In Our Planet’. So how is investment in eco-innovation helping to deliver a more sustainable future?

When it comes to the environment, it can be argued that the technology industry is both the problem and the solution.

Why the problem? Because experts say tech is responsible for between 3.5 percent and 4 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. This ranks it above even aviation. Meanwhile the EU estimates that the Information Technology and Communication (ICT) sector is responsible for 10 percent of all electricity consumption.

Why the solution? Because we all want a prosperous future for the planet. Yet we also want the convenience and fun of modern living. Only eco-innovation can deliver the solutions needed to satisfy both aspirations.

Slower China factory activity growth challenges economic recovery prospects

Slower China factory activity growth challenges economic recovery prospects
  • Manufacturing PMI 51.9 in March vs 52.6 in Feb
  • Non-manufacturing PMI expands at fastest pace in nearly 12 years

BEIJING, March 31 (Reuters) – China’s manufacturing activity expanded at a slower pace in March, official data showed on Friday, raising doubts about the strength of a post-COVID factory recovery amid weaker global demand and a property market downturn.

The services sector was stronger, with activity expanding at the fastest pace in nearly 12 years after the end of China’s zero-COVID policy in December boosted transportation, accommodation and construction.

The official manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI) stood at 51.9, against 52.6 in February, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), above the 50-point mark that separates expansion and contraction in activity on a monthly basis.

That slightly exceeded expectations of 51.5 tipped by economists in a Reuters poll, and led to the yuan strengthening against the dollar. The

 —

Israel is far from the only country facing political maneuvers to weaken its democracy, or the only nation led by a clever politician seeking to manipulate the system for his own benefit. And Israel’s citizens are far from the only ones pushing back to defend their democracy.

But the electrifying events of the past few weeks across that small but pivotal Middle Eastern country offer one of the sharpest rebukes to date to those who may believe democracy is a moribund system. Indeed, the trajectory of Israel’s crisis is filled with lessons for democracy’s supporters across
